Sarah came up with a creative date idea: rock climbing. They'd only met a couple of months before, so Sarah was still testing Hunter's taste for adventure. And even if they couldn't scale up real rock walls, they could simulate the danger at Peak Experiences, a rock climbing gym in Midlothian. Sarah had been to a similar gym once before, but this was Hunter's first time rock climbing. They had to watch a lengthy training video to learn how to operate the auto-belay system. Putting on the bulky harnesses (which, like chaps, put a lot of emphasis on the glute region) took a long time. They took turns scaling progressively more difficult rock walls (maxing out at probably a level 3 of 10). Whoever was at the bottom had a fabulous view as the harness squeezed the living daylights out of the person rappelling back down the wall. After four or five walls each, their arms were noodles, and they struggled to conjure the strength to even take the harnesses back off. On the way out of the parking lot after the date, Hunter called Sarah on the phone to let her know that her headlights weren't on. It was the first time they'd ever spoken on the phone, and opened the door to nightly phone calls that began shortly after.
