About two weeks after Hunter and Sarah returned from their planned trip to Indiana so that Hunter could meet Sarah's dad for the first time, Sarah received a troubling call from her cousin, Randy. Her dad was in the hospital with COVID pneumonia, and the prognosis was unclear at that point. Randy encouraged Sarah to make the trip back to Indiana, but this time, Hunter had to stay behind and work. This was the first time Sarah and Hunter were away from each other for more than a few days since they'd begun dating. Fortunately, Sarah's brother, Seth, was also able to come to Indiana from his home in Arizona to help care for their dad. It was an eventful trip that included a tornado that touched down near their dad's house and destroyed part of an administrative building for the school district Sarah and Seth grew up attending. Sarah and Hunter stayed connected by phone and video chat, but she missed his hugs and really needed one as she waited to see how her dad would recover. Fortunately, he was okay and was released from the hospital after nearly two weeks. Sarah and Seth both stayed for the duration and did their best to support each other and their dad. She headed home on August 4, driving faster than she should have, trying to get back to Hunter's comforting arms as quickly as possible.

While Sarah was in Indiana to help care for her dad during his recovery, the Summer Olympic Games in Paris were in full swing. Sarah is not a huge sports fan, but something about the Olympics, which brings together many of the best athletes in the world from so many different countries, has always felt special to her. She tries to watch as much as she can across a variety of events, especially the sports that aren't usually televised. The timing of that summer's Olympics was beneficial, as Sarah was spending a lot of time in waiting areas and hospital rooms, and streaming the Games helped fill some of the time and distract her from missing Hunter. When Sarah got back home, the Olympics were still in swing, and Hunter missed her so much that he watched alongside her, never once complaining (even though they're not his cup of tea). The event they most remember watching together was the controversial breakdancing battle. It was a little bizarre to watch such a freestyle sport be performed on such a formal stage, but they're glad they watched it while they could, since it won't be back in the Olympics again anytime soon.
