In October 2024, Sarah's childhood best friend, Kalin (and the photographer of this wedding), came to Virginia for a visit with her husband, JB, and their three children: Ava, Archer, and Nora. Sarah took them to the Metro Richmond Zoo one day while Hunter was at work, where the kids fed the giraffes, and they watched the zoo staff feed the penguins. But the real highlight of having Kalin and her family in town was visiting the beach at Cape Charles. It's on Virginia's Eastern Shore, but on the Chesapeake Bay side, so the waves were tiny and the kids could wade out in the water quite a ways without it getting too deep. Hunter set up his beach chair and almost immediately conked out for a long nap, his towel resting over his face to keep the sun off. The kids made friends with other young ones who were at the shore, and eventually realized they could search for hermit crabs. Ava, the eldest, was especially delighted by searching in the sand for them, reminding Sarah very much of her mother, who'd kept hermit crabs in a tank in her bedroom when they were kids. They found some big ones! When the sun was setting and the kids were starting to tucker out, they made their way to a local seafood restaurant for dinner. The kids (especially Nora, the youngest) barely made it through dinner and crashed on the two-hour drive back to Sarah and Hunter's house. It was a beautiful day, and they made beautiful memories!
