While Sarah was on an intentional break between full-time jobs during the summer of 2024, her mom, Bonnie, earned a trip for two through her real estate job to a resort near Cancun, Mexico, for a few days. Bonnie invited Sarah to go with her, and after renewing her passport, Sarah was all set to go, while Hunter planned to stay behind and take care of the animals (and, of course, go to work). Sarah and her mom had to arrive at the airport early for their flight out of Richmond, which was scheduled to depart before 6 am. Only after they were in line to check their bags did Sarah realize that she'd accidentally grabbed her nearly-expired passport rather than her new one. She hated to do it, but had no choice but to call Hunter and see if he could bring her the correct passport in time for her flight. By some miracle, Hunter picked up the phone and agreed to rush out of the house with her passport and make the 40-minute drive as fast as he could. And when they use the word "miracle" to describe this, it's no exaggeration: just the night before the flight, Hunter read a thread on Reddit about setting up exceptions for loved ones to "do not disturb" settings on his phone. It prompted him to set Sarah as an exception, which is the only reason his phone rang when she called him before 8 am. Had he not seen that Reddit thread or changed his settings, the call wouldn't have gone through, and Sarah would have missed the flight. She felt terrible for waking him early, as it just so happened to be Hunter's busiest day at work, where they take inventory of the entire stock of their multi-million-dollar electrical supply warehouse in a single day. She was grateful when he showed up at the airport looking disheveled, holding her passport, before heading to work a little early. Sarah had to run to security and then to the gate, but she made it to the plane with about 15 minutes to spare before the door was sealed. The entire group of Bonnie's colleagues who were going on the trip with them clapped when Sarah arrived at the gate. Hunter always makes Sarah's life better, but he was truly her hero that day.

Sarah had never been to Mexico before, and that's probably because her fair skin is not made for a UV index rating of 13. She thought the scale only went up to 10, and also that you couldn't burn while inside a building. Both of those things were seemingly proven wrong in Mexico. The resort was gorgeous with ocean water the color of topaz, huge pools, and palm trees everywhere, and wildlife running around that you'd have to go to a zoo in Virginia to see. Sarah saw adult and baby coati (think raccoon and lemur all in one) digging through trash cans when they thought no one was looking, giant lizards sunning themselves on the rocks, and most miraculously, a capybara on the beach! Hunter and Sarah once found a music video about capybaras, and ever since, they randomly yell, "CAPYBARA!" whenever the mood strikes, always guaranteeing a laugh. Seeing one in person was a life achievement that Sarah didn't realize she needed. The resort was designed for couples, so Sarah missed Hunter intensely while she was in Mexico. From the couple-sized tub on the patio overlooking the ocean to the couple's massage on the beach that Sarah got with her mom, it was a romantic getaway. And the only thing missing (other than aloe for Sarah's sunburn) was Hunter.
