While scrolling on Reddit one evening, Hunter came across a post from the couple's favorite alternative brick brand, Funwhole. The brand was in the process of transitioning from "Funwhole" to "Lumibricks," a name that better captures their specialty of lighted brick sets. As a way to celebrate the transition, the team at Funwhole was hosting a friendly story-telling competition with the prompt of sharing a favorite memory of the Funwhole brand. Sarah was hesitant to take on another task leading up to the wedding, but Hunter encouraged them to enter. They worked together to draft the story and spent an afternoon setting up Hunter's medieval village, which includes every single set in Funwhole's "Middle Ages" theme, to take photos and videos for their entry. They entered a few days before submissions closed on Memorial Day, and then waited for nearly two weeks to discover that...they won! They were the judges' favorite submission, winning with the following story, written in Hunter's voice:

Around a year ago, my fiancé received a brick set of flowers from a friend as a gift, which would be her first experience with any sort of brick set. With as much as she enjoyed it, and at the time we were talking about decorations for an upcoming wedding, we figured having brick-built flowers would be a fun and unique touch. Shortly thereafter, she would discover the wide variety of sets available, and things escalated to the idea of telling our story together, from how we met, to important moments and milestones, in the form of a brick museum.

I grew up with brick sets, and they have always held a special place in my heart. Experiencing my first FUNWHOLE sets with all the wires and the unique bricks to manage them immediately caught my attention. The lighting systems take the builds to an entirely new level that I absolutely adore. Turning on the Forge House in a dimly lit room and watching the flames of the furnace flicker was an amazing experience. I became a quick fan as well.

Through searching for different sets to represent important moments in our story, we were introduced to FUNWHOLE by way of the Mountain Cabin (still my fiancé's favorite build of any brand), which is being displayed as the cabin we stayed in when we got engaged. (Like, it is a weirdly close approximation). Since that first set, she has spent countless hours planning displays and building a website to tell our story through the lens of bricks. Other FUNWHOLE set examples include:

  • The "Western Saloon" -  representing a saloon we visited at a ghost town when we took our first trip by plane together to Arizona.

  • The "Balcony Theater" -  representing the many date nights to the historic theaters we're lucky to have in our city.

  • The "Graffiti Bus Stop" -  representing a Segway tour date my fiancé surprised me with so we could see our city's incredible street art together.

  • The "Lookout Campground" - representing a trip we took to a fire lookout tower where my fiancé held my hand as I fought my fear of heights to see the beautiful views.

  • The "A-Frame Cabin" -  representing the lake house where we spent our first overnight trip together, which will also be our upcoming wedding venue.

  • And the entire collection of Middle Ages sets to display in a combined village as a centerpiece of the museum, with its own stories from Ren Faires, to a trip to an actual apothecary, and plenty more.

She went from never having touched a set to being a full blown fan in no time at all. Our museum will have over 300,000 bricks displayed in total, and over 25 FUNWHOLE sets (so far; she stays shopping your site). FUNWHOLE has become quite a significant part of our lives as we prepare for the wedding, and we'll be fans long after. That mountain cabin truly made an impact!

Their prize was the opportunity to select any set from Funwhole's online catalog to receive for free. Since they'd already purchased all of the sets they had stories to connect to as part of their museum exhibit, it was a tough choice. They ended up going with the "Sailboat La Brisa" because it reminded them of new beginnings and the exciting adventure they are embarking on as they begin their married life together. Plus, one of Hunter's favorite escape dreams is to imagine the couple sailing the world together (a bubble Sarah hates to burst every time she reminds him that she gets terribly seasick). They are beyond tickled to be official winners of a brick-themed storytelling competition, a fitting homage for the journey they took together while building "Our Lego Museum."
