When the couple exchanged gifts during their first Christmas together in 2022, Hunter surprised Sarah with a record player. A HUGE record player with a wood grain design and the ability to also tune into AM/FM radio and play cassette tapes (two features that were probably overkill, in retrospect). This was his way of showing her that he was listening when she lamented having records but no record player (since she had donated hers to her sister when she went off to college). The record player was too large to keep plugged in on a shelf all the time, but she busted it out one day soon after Christmas and played some of her favorite records for Hunter. I Love You, Honeybear by Father John Misty and Circuital by My Morning Jacket are the two she most remembers, albums that Hunter didn't know. They cozied up together and just sat in stillness, listening to each album through (only getting up to flip to side B as needed). Sarah even serenaded Hunter, and despite not being the best singer, Hunter adored her for it. Sarah regrets that they haven't used the record much since then, but they cherish the memory of that peaceful evening, the shared feeling of the soft waves of music resounding in their chests as they held onto the moment—and each other.
