Just as the couple's text messaging was reaching epic proportions (like having eight simultaneous conversations about different things happening at the same time in text messages regularly clocking 100+ words exchanged many times a day), Hunter's phone broke, and suddenly, the world went dark. They had to switch to emailing each other, and they immediately got into the spirit, pretending to be characters out of a Jane Austen novel, carrying on a romance in epistolary form. Sarah became Madame Duchess of Chesterfield, and Hunter became Captain "Swine" Williams of the Virginia Revenge ("Swine" coming from all the times Sarah half-jokingly told Hunter that he was an uncultured swine). She was landlocked and desperate for adventure; he was stuck out at sea, wanting nothing more than to see her shore break over the horizon. Their emails grew far lengthier than even their lengthiest texts, thanks to access to a full-sized keyboard (Hunter's last email clocked in at 969 words!). Sarah learned during this time that Hunter is supposedly descended from pirates, making his role-play as a pirate weirdly fitting. Both of them were surprisingly good at carrying on romantic 19th-century dialogue. Because they know you're curious, here are some of the best lines they exchanged:
My eyes have read over the lines of your previous correspondence many revolutions of the clockface, and each time I smile. Not just across my face, but across my soul. I am alight knowing that you are breathing somewhere underneath this night and these stars. Tomorrow, you shall be nowhere else but in my arms. ~ Madame Duchess of Chesterfield
You are a star in more ways than one, as you've been a beacon in the sky guiding me through my days until I once again return to shore. I long to hold you in my arms once more as soon as we make port. The days away from you feel longer than the last. Even a day away feels like torture, though one more I can survive. ~ Capt. "Swine" Williams of the Virginia Revenge
