Just as Sarah and Hunter were preparing for Sarah's dad, her brother, Seth, and his fiancé, Mel, to visit them in Virginia, he received a phone call from his dad that his maternal grandmother in Iowa had passed away. Suddenly, he was planning a trip to attend the funeral, which was scheduled for the same weekend that Sarah's family was coming to Virginia. Hunter hadn't met either Sarah's brother or dad yet, so the timing was most unfortunate. Hunter's trip to Iowa was defined by disastrous airline experiences, starting with his rush to the airport in Richmond to catch his flight, only to board the plane and then sit on the tarmac for two hours because the cargo door had broken. So began the couple's first weekend apart since they started dating. While Hunter was in Iowa, he missed the drama of Sarah's sister, Emma, losing track of her tiny, mischievous kitten, Plato. They were terrified that he had somehow gotten out of the house and had to scour the neighborhood for him. As it turned out, he was just lost in the walk-in attic upstairs, which was a mess and full of hiding places. It took effort to flush him out, but eventually he reunited with Emma. As Hunter was heading home after the funeral, the flight he was supposed to get on out of Omaha was cancelled. They weren't able to put him on any other flight, so the only option was for the airport to pay for a taxi to take him to the airport in Kansas City, Missouri. That taxi ride was about three hours long and cost a total of over $500 (which, fortunately, he was not paying for), and it also totaled more than what he'd spent on the airline ticket in the first place. From there, he caught a plane to Atlanta, where he had a layover before flying back to Richmond. He was able to meet Seth upon his return, at least, and Seth made him a Moscow mule with honey habanero moonshine.
