For the first two Halloweens the couple spent together, Hunter was playing D&D with his friends. So, for the first actual Halloween spent in each other's presence, they decided to go to Alexandria to experience the holiday through their nephew Andrew's eyes. Hunter's brother, Dustin, was also still on vacation in Virginia, so they were able to spend more time with him as well. Andrew loves Pokémon, so he dressed up as Eevee, his favorite character. His mom, Rachel, wore a Pikachu costume. And his dad, Steve, went as Ash (he had a vest that matched the one Ash wears in the show, but it was too small, so he had to improvise). They trick-or-treated around the neighborhood while Dustin, Hunter, and Sarah passed out candy and rubber ducks to kids and beer to their grateful parents. They had a fire going in the driveway too, in what was the most elaborate trick-or-treating station Sarah had ever personally been a part of (perhaps aside from the COVID-era creativity that spurred the invention of candy slides mounted to porch railings, which Sarah participated in at her friend, Vanessa's, house during the peak of COVID). They don't get many trick-or-treaters at home, so it was fun to have a steady stream of costumed kids come by and a terrific way to meet people who lived in the same neighborhood as their family. Andrew made out like a fiend, dumping his candy out on the coffee table before bed to get a look at his loot. The adults stayed up and assembled brick sets late into the evening.
