For the first year of dating, the only safe restaurants Sarah knew she could eat at with all of her dietary restrictions were Jason's Deli and Wendy's. But on a trip to Fredericksburg to visit Sarah's friend, Hope, they ended up at a restaurant that was a favorite of Hope's family, called Firebirds. Hope recommended it because it had baked potatoes, which were a safe food for Sarah (she just has to pack her own butter). While they sat outside on the patio in the warm spring evening, one of them pointed out that the menu had salmon, another safe food for Sarah, as long as it was cooked properly. So they asked the waiter if they could get it cooked special, and they could! Sarah had her first full meal at a restaurant that evening since she fell ill in 2013. SO THE FIRST TIME IN A DECADE! It was a momentous occasion and opened up the door to many more dinners at Firebirds (and some other steakhouses as well) in the years to come.

The discovery of Firebirds meant that Sarah could participate in family dinners when her Uncle Roger came to Richmond, and when the family traveled to Phoenix for her brother's wedding. It also has meant having a spot for birthday and anniversary dinners. Hunter has yet to try everything on the menu (something he can't say about Jason's Deli), so it remains a treat when they get to enjoy dinner out together. The restaurant usually gets her order right on the first try, but they always get it right on the second try. That's more than she can say for Texas Roadhouse.
