Ask Hunter what his favorite Christmas movie is. No, really, go ask him. The answer he'll give you is Die Hard, the 1988 movie starring Bruce Willis and Alan Rickman. If you haven't seen it, here's a quick overview: The movie features New York City police officer John McClane (Willis), who travels to Los Angeles to visit his estranged wife on Christmas Eve. While attending a party at the Nakatomi Plaza skyscraper, a group of terrorists, led by Hans Gruber (Rickman), seize control of the building and take everyone inside hostage. McClane, however, is separated from the others and must fight his way through the terrorists to rescue his wife and the others, all while uncovering Gruber's true motive, which is to steal millions in bearer bonds. Sounds like a Christmas movie, right? Aside from the fact that it takes place on Christmas Eve, the movie is not what Sarah would call particularly full of holiday cheer. At least not her version of holiday cheer (which, admittedly, tracks closer to animated movies and Hallmark-style rom-coms). If you ask what her favorite Christmas movie is, depending on her mood, she might say Klaus, Arthur Christmas, or Let it Snowall of which are overtly Christmasy. Sarah's mom, Bonnie, also loves Die Hard, and so that's what they watched during Christmas dinner in 2023. Sarah gives Hunter grief not about his love for Die Hard, but his classification of it as a Christmas movie. Sarah was outvoted on Christmas 2024, when her family voted to watch Die Hard II with their holiday dinner. They chose the retro phone to represent the movie because it resembles McClane's boxy radio from the movie. And don't miss the John McClane minifigure, complete with radio and gun!
