It was only after three months of dating that Sarah finally saw Hunter's apartment and met his cats, Cali and Delilah, for the first time. This was because Hunter had a roommate in crisis who was living with him temporarily, and the decision was made to avoid the apartment altogether until that person found more permanent lodgings. Hunter's apartment was located inside a building that had once been a parachute factory in the Manchester area of South Richmond. His small, two-bedroom apartment was an interior unit, meaning it had no windows that looked outside (instead, they looked out into the main lobby, which had skylights). It required walking through a maze of hallways to find his door, which only stood out because of his Dungeons & Dragons doormat. What the apartment lacked in natural light, it made up for with very tall ceilings. In true bachelor style, little artwork was on the walls, and the second bedroom was almost empty, as though he never expected to live there long, despite living there for three years.

The couple began to spend more time in the apartment to ensure the cats didn't experience too much neglect (they'd been spending long periods by themselves when Hunter was always coming over to Sarah's house after work). Cali immediately cozied up to Sarah, but Delilah was far more suspicious and walked around the apartment hissing for the first few times Sarah was over. But as Sarah made more appearances, Delilah's heart thawed, and she soon blessed Sarah with acceptance by cuddling up on her stomach for a nap one morning. At the time, Sarah's office was within walking distance of the apartment, so she could sleep over and then walk to work on in-person days. Perhaps their most vivid memory of Hunter's apartment is packing it up and saying goodbye to it when Hunter and his cats moved in with Sarah and her mom in January 2023. Hunter waited too long to start packing, so it was a mad dash to get everything done before his deadline to move out. He left most of his furniture in a common space at the building (nabbed within a day by someone else who lived there), in a leap of faith that moving in with Sarah was going to work out. Luckily for him, it did.

Sarah slowly endeared herself to Cali and Delilah, who accepted her into their windowless space. Maybe she was the breath of fresh air they needed!

Photos from moving Hunter and the cats out of the bachelor pad and into Sarah's house, which involved donating almost all of his furniture, renting a storage unit, and selling his mattress. Delilah helped.
